What is trekking
"Just as a white summer-cloud, in harmony with heaven and earth, freely floats in the blue sky from horizon to horizon, following the breath of the atmosphere in the same way the pilgrim abandons himself to the breath of the greater life that wells up from the depth of his being and leads him beyond the farthest horizons to an aim which is already present within him, though yet hidden from his sight"
(Ven. Anagarika Govinda - The Way Of The White Clouds)
The rhododendron filled, green, dark and deep forest with different wild animals, verity of birds,
many Hindu & Buddhist Temples, breath-taking landscape and above all the warm greeting from
smiling Local people makes your trekking one of the best in the world. Nepal was opened her border for foreigner only in 1948. The first tourist, as opposed to mountaineers and researchers, arrived in 1955 but it was not until 1965, when col. Jimmy Robert set up a private office, that the first commercial treks began.
The concept was similar to the expedition approach used by mountaineers with guides, porters
and tents, which is still followed. So don't be confused as the mountaineering and trekking are similar. Mountaineering takes to you to the pick of the mountains and trekking provides you only the breath-taking views of mountains passing through common foot-trials.
The first expedition on Everest was succeed by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepali
Norgay Tenzing Sherpa in 1953. Every year about 700-900 climber comes to Nepal to try their luck. It's a surprise that there are still many sizeable picks which have not been successfully climbed, and some which haven't even been attempted. So hurray up you may be the first one to climb those peaks.
Trekking in Nepal is available all round season. It is possible at any time of the year depending on
where one wishes to go. The most popular season are Spring (February-March) and Autumn (September-November) even during monsoon season (June- August) trekking is possible in the "rain shadow", the land behind the high Himalaya, areas like Mustang, Upper Manang and Dolpo.
